EcoHood Visual Identity
I directed the creative vision for EcoHood, a pilot sustainable housing project in South Central Los Angeles. EcoHood’s mission is radical in its simplicity: land ownership, solar-powered micro-homes, and shared green spaces as the foundation for dignified, affordable living. My task was to translate that clarity and ambition into a visual identity that felt both grounded and bold.
I built a brand language using a stark yellow, black, and white palette; geometric, boxy forms in the logo; and stencil-inspired type for display copy. These elements balanced minimal structure with bold presence, echoing EcoHood’s vision of housing justice stripped of red tape but full of power. To humanize the system, I photographed community members whose stories brought the work to life, personalizing the campaign and connecting the brand directly to the people it serves. The work resulted in branding, web design, and graphic systems that gave EcoHood a strong, recognizable identity and helped connect its community-driven innovation with broader public awareness.

“Melissa translated our vision into a visual identity that truly resonates. The brand’s geometric logo, built from simple, universal shapes, mirrors how EcoHood builds both homes and community. And her work brought that clarity and hope to life."
